Description

Story
A ringworld commissioned for construction by the UPOE (United Peoples of Earth) in the year 2813. The Project, code named "TARSIS" (Terrestrial Atmosphere Ringworld System In Space) was constructed to the delight of the human race. TARSIS was to be a vessel for traveling between habitable planets, seeding the human race throughout the galaxy. The ring would take about 200,000 years to reach a newly discovered planet in our nearest star system. Over about 400 years, TARSIS was constructed in orbit around the moon.
The day-night cycle of the ring is powered by a small, man-made star. Around the star is the "Night Maker", which spins to create the night and day. There are always eight days and eight nights on TARSIS at any moment. The man-made sun is always directly above, there is only noon, and mid-night. There is no in between. When the "sun rises" on TARSIS, it is as if someone turned on a light switch.

This was inspired by the novel "Ringworld" (Which I want to read, but have not yet) and the game "Halo"

Nice background but there are a few problems...
One: a star (man made or not) cannot reach criticle fusion point below a certain mass, and even if it could it would burn out and go Nova in just under 2,000 years.
Two: travleing through interplanetary/galatic space is hazardous. Lots of free floating rocks and debris and astroids. Assuming the super structer retains it's shape, stays in orbit around the sun or even holds together in the first place, how do you repair it and replace lost air?

P.S. I'm a hard core nerd.
